CALCUTTA — Beaver Local sport fans might see a ticket price increase this fall.
Robert Beam, who was hired last month as a full-time athletic director, came to the board Monday night with the suggestion of making all ticket purchases an online transaction.
“Our families and our community are used to going online and purchasing tickets this way,” Beam said.
Hometown Tickets, the company that Beam suggested the district works with, already handles digital ticket purchasing for 70 percent of all Ohio schools according to superintendent Eric Lowe. Digital tickets are not a new concept to the district as any ticket purchased for a play-off game last year, regardless of what sport, had to be purchased through Hometown Tickets.
The initial start-up comes at no cost to the district, but ticket-purchasers will see a noticeable price jump. Beam said that there is a charge from Hometown Tickets as well as a processing fee tacked on to the ticket price, making the current six-dollar ticket a $7.52 ticket.
“There’s a couple things we could do with that cost: we could absorb it as a district, we can pick up the $1.52, we could split the cost and pick up a dollar and have the consumer pay the 52 cents, or the consumer could pay the full amount,” Beam said.
Board president John Campbell had mixed feelings about the possible switch and said he does not want anyone to be left out if they don’t have access to the internet. Beam said that physical tickets will be available to purchase at the event, but they will strongly push purchasing them online.
“It’s just like buying anything else that you buy online, it’s really simple,” he said.
Beam said that passes would still be available and any event, including theater programs or concerts, would be purchased through the app.
The board did not make a decision on the matter at this time, but Lowe and Beam said the district needs to act quickly in order to get the system set up for the summer season.
In personnel matters, the board accepted the resignation of special education and programs director Andy Reeves, effective June 30. Lowe said that his departure is a huge loss, but he wishes him well on his future endeavors. The board also approved the following supplemental contracts for: assistant football coaches Derrick Stickles, Nick Sesonsky, Jess Krulik, Aaron West, Josh Weese, Bill Jones, and Mike Curran, freshman football coach Terry Bowyer, middle school football coaches Ted Kinsey and Justin Flowers, assistant volleyball coach Sierra McComas, junior varsity volleyball coach Erin Williams, freshman volleyball coach Amanda Weyand and middle school volleyball coaches Amanda Weyand and Taylor Ward, head girls soccer coach Liz Connor and assistant girls soccer coaches Hannah Cochran and Alyssa Culp, head boys soccer coach Joe Zirillo and assistant boys soccer coach Devon Miller, head cross country coach Jessica Darrah and golf coach Al Pierson.
In other business, the board approved:
— The fourth-grade Camp Fitch field trip from Oct. 11 through Oct. 13.
— A $218,930 contract with Columbiana County Educational Service Center for next school year.
— The College Credit Plus Memorandum of Understanding with Mount Vernon Nazarene University for next school year.
