ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Judge Albert E. Davies announced that the Ohio Supreme Court has awarded the Court of Common Pleas of Belmont County, Probate/Juvenile Division, a technology grant in the amount of $200,000.
The grant will allow for an upgrade to the court’s current software to a web-based version permitting easier access for the public and staff. Davies called this an exciting move forward for the court that will provide advanced technology to better serve the needs of the court and the public.
The grant, written by Court Administrator Jennifer Shunk, will provide funding for the purchase and installation of a common software platform that connect all courts in Belmont County, including the divisional county courts, as well as the clerk of courts for the General Division of the Court of Common Pleas and the office of the county commissioners.
This new technology will create an easier, one system access for the public to obtain certain information from all of the courts in Belmont County and the referenced offices.
Further, cost savings will be realized in regards to maintenance, software upgrades, and staff training. Davies is pleased to have been able to coordinate the efforts in the grant application as the court endeavors to serve the citizens of Belmont County with the most current and technologically advanced systems available.
The goal is for the system to be fully operational in January. Plans are being made to begin work by the end of summer. With this new technology court staff will be able to remote into the system, especially probation officers working on the road.
Clearly, the ability to look up court dates, enter case notes, and review court orders outside of the office will result in improved communication for court staff, probation officers and the individuals being served by the courts.
The Court of Common Pleas of Belmont County, Probate/Juvenile Division is very thankful for the Ohio Supreme Court’s award of these grant funds and its show of support for all of the courts in Belmont County.
The upshot is that this funding will assist in improving and promoting the ongoing efficient operations of the courts and at the same time allow for better access to the courts by the public.
