Community conversations
focusing on ‘the new Weirton’
WEIRTON — The community is invited to a community conversation — “How Can We Prepare for the New Weirton, and Its Future?” — which will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Interested futurists can attend virtually online by sending an e-mail to: refdesk@weirton.lib.wv.us and enter “Community Conversation” in the subject field. Registered Weirton conversationalists will receive a link to attend one of the three identical conversations. Attendees may attend in person, but the Mary H. Weir Public Library at 3442 Main St. has limited space due to social distancing and safety COVID procedures and only registered conversationalists can be accommodated. Masks are encouraged and will be available.
“The conversations will be opportunities for community groups, civic groups, agencies, government, businesses, schools and adults, parents, youth to meet and discuss Weirton’s future, according to Rik Rekowski, library director.
“At a time where the community has experienced changes in population, housing and changes in its economy, the Community Conversations Project will hopefully enable us to discover possible issues Weirton may experience in its transformation of today and through its future,” Rekowski noted. “The conversations will help our citizens discover and identify who we are, and what we know now and what we do not know. The conversations will hopefully help people identify possible strategies that may be helpful for Weirton’s community in its transformation into the future,” Rekowski said.
The Mary H. Weir Public Library has been awarded a Libraries Transform Communities Grant from the American Library Association enabling a Weirton conversation on Weirton’s Future.
