CDC panel backs booster expansion despite concerns
Federal health officials say millions more Americans can get a COVID-19 booster and choose a different vaccine for that shot. The FDA authorized such an expansion of the nation’s booster campaign, also endorsed Thursday by a CDC advisory panel. (Oct. 21)

All three COVID-19 booster shots are available in Indiana.
When scheduling an appointment online at ourshot.in.gov., the website allows for both Pfizer and Moderna boosters to be scheduled, but not Johnson & Johnson. As of Tuesday, Hoosiers are met with the following message:
“Make a booster appointment (Pfizer or Moderna) for the same type of vaccine you already received, but you may choose a different type at your booster appointment. To receive a Johnson & Johnson booster, most sites allow walk-ins or call 211 for an appointment. Check the site listing to see which vaccines are available.”
A spokesperson for the Indiana Department of Health explained that the information for J&J is still being updated.
“The Johnson & Johnson boosters are still being loaded into the system,” she told IndyStar on Monday. “So individuals seeking a J&J booster should call 211 to schedule an appointment or walk in to a clinic that offers Johnson & Johnson.”

The state vaccine dashboard’s main page reiterates that eligible Hoosiers may choose which vaccine to receive as a booster dose — including J&J — and that they can mix and match their booster, as outlined in the CDC’s latest guidelines.
Eligible people seeking a booster dose can still walk into most clinics or call 211 to make an appointment. The state health department offers vaccinations at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway until Saturday, Oct. 30, from noon to 8 p.m., until Oct. 30. It’s located in the IndyCar parking lot at 4551 W. 16th St. across from Gate 2.
