Veterans Job Fair on July 15
The 2021 Veterans Summer Job Fair, an in-person and virtual hiring event for military veterans and their families, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 15 at Kalahari Resorts, 3001 Kalahari Blvd.
Veterans, transitioning military and spouses can connect with military-friendly recruiters from dozens of local companies for opportunities in the Rural Capital Area, including Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis and Williamson counties, and take part in free, virtual career-enhancement workshops.
The event will be held by Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area and its partners at the Texas Veterans Commission & Texas Workforce Commission.

TAYLOR
On-demand van service arriving
The city of Taylor announced the arrival of the CARTS on-demand van service.
A celebration will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at 1103 W. Second St., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m.
This service will begin July 5 and will provide curb-to-curb transportation from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays between any two points within the city. With 15-minutes notice, users can request a ride from anywhere in Taylor and meet their driver at a nearby curb or corner to be dropped off at a curb near their destination.
To call a ride, passengers must download the CARTS Now app and request a ride or call 512-505-5666.
CARTS ridership is open to everyone. Each one-way ride costs $2 but rides are free for veterans for medical trips and are $1 for seniors 65 and older, persons with disabilities and children under 12. Passengers can pay through the app with a credit card or with cash.

Samaritan Center receives grant
The Samaritan Center has received a grant from the Disabled Veterans National Foundation for $16,000 for Hope for Heroes, a program providing direct mental health services addressing the psychological and physical wounds faced by Texas veterans.
A grant from the foundation funds free and affordable mental health care for Texas veterans struggling with combat and service-related trauma.
